Great Lakes 25 days

View what Trackers say Extended Itinerary View Map

Inlanders all, they come from lanes and alleys, streets and avenues—north, east, south, and west. Yet here they all unite. Tell me, does the magnetic virtue of the needles of the compasses of all those ships attract them thither?—HERMAN MELVILLE

Like the residents of Melville’s Manhattoes, RVers are attracted to great bodies of water, and ever since 1998, the Tracks, yearly, 25-day Great Lakes tour has sold out.

The Great Lakes is a chain of inland lakes, Ontario, Erie, Huron, Michigan, and Superior, stretching from New York to Minnesota, the largest fresh-water body of water in the world.

From its spectacular beginning overlooking the lighting of Niagara Falls, Tracks’ Great Lakes follows a route around, along, and between the lakes that clearly explains our enchantment with great bodies of water. Michigan’s Copper Harbor Peninsula, a ferry to Manitoulin Island, shoreline drives around Lake Superior, the quaint coastal villages of Michigan’s Door County, and a spectacular ending at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island all constitute “the magnetic virtue which attracts us thither.”

Includes: in Canada: Niagara Falls, Sault St. Marie. In Northern Wisconsin: Bayfield, Lac du Flambeau, Sturgeon Bay, 2 boat tours, Door County Peninsula. On Michigan’s Upper Peninsula: Mackinac Island & horse car tour, St. Ignace, possible North Woods fall colors, 59 tours and events, 8 meals, and standard Tracks services. Total driving miles 1,381.

Discounts: $50 early bird for reservations four months or more prior to tour, $100 for reservations 6 months prior to tour (total $150 with the 6-month discount), $50 Good Sam/FMCA membership, $100 past Tracker, $25 internet reservations.
